We’ve compiled an ultimate list of more than 600 animals that start with a E, which took us quite a while. But first of all, here is a quick list of my favorites to get you going:
- Eagle (a bird of prey)
- Elephant (the largest land animal)
- Elk (a large deer)
- Eel (a snake-like fish)
- Echidna (a spiny egg-laying mammal)
- Egret (a long-legged water bird)
- Emu (2nd largest bird in the world)
- Eland (the largest antelope)
- Ermine (a small weasel)
- Eft (terrestrial stage of the Eastern Newt)
- Eider (a sea duck)
- Earthworm (a worm that lives in soil)
But there’s a lot more where that came from! The complete list of more than 600 animals that start with a E was compiled this way: our list uses only common names because scientific names are difficult to pronounce and probably not what you’re looking for. We’ve included only wild animals (no pet breeds or domestic animals). This list focuses primarily on vertebrates (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, & fish) but also includes a couple invertebrate animals at the end, like the Earwig!
How Many Animals That Start With an E on our list
131 Mammals
138 Birds
35 Reptiles
35 Amphibians
265 Fish
2 Invertebrates
= 606 Animals That Begin With E!
If you want more information about any of these animals that start with an e, simply highlight the name in the list and right click it in your browser. Then choose “Search with Google” and you’re good to go! Some of my favorite info resources are the IUCN Redlist, Arkive, Fishbase, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Encyclopedia of Life, & One Zoom.
